How to start using Gene?

How to Open Gene?

1. Ctrl + Q

You can open or close Gene with the Ctrl + Q Shortcut

2. Side Icon

You can open or close Gene by clicking Gene icon in lower right-hand corner

3. Context Menu

Right-Click and Click on the "Ask Gene" context menu option for the browser

4. Extension Menu

Click on the "Ask Gene" extension option and then Click "Ask Gene" button

How to use Gene?

1. Regular Chatbot

 If you simply just want to use Gene to ask anything, or to have a conversation with the AI, open normally and ask.

2. Chatbot with Highlighted Text

You can also highlight text on a webpage and "Ask Gene" a question about the text. Gene will then use the text highlighted as context for when it answers your question.

3. Chatbot with Webpage content referenced

Want to reference the content of the webpage you're on? Type "/webpage" and ask whatever you'd like. Great for summaries.

4. Click the Question Mark

Don’t understand a paragraph you’re reading? Click the question mark icon at the top left of the paragraph for a quick explanation.

Keep these in mind…

Hide/Unhide Gene Icon

Feel free to hide Gene icon on the page you’re on or on all pages, by right-clicking on the icon

When using PDFs from your local files…

  • Make sure to “Open up in Chrome”

  • Turn on “Allow access to file URLs” in extension settings (as shown in video)

  • If you want to highlight text please use the right-click context menu option (as shown in video). You cannot use the shortcut feature for PDFs that come from your local files.

When using super long webpages or documents…

  • You have to be patient. Depending on how long that document or webpage is, it may take 30s to 50s for Gene to digest content

  • Once it digests it once, it should be much faster and easier to use for future times on that page

“/” Options

  • When you press “/”, you will be presented with multiple options. Each option represents a different use case as stated under the option.

  • You can always default to “/webpage” to reference the content of ANY webpage. This includes PDFs, Google Docs, and Youtube videos.

You may also hide or unhide Gene icon on all pages by right clicking the Gene extension option
