Acceptance of Terms
By installing, accessing, or using the Gene AI Assistant Chrome extension or any associated services available at askgene.io (collectively, the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not install or use the Service.
These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User" or "you") and Gene AI ("Gene," "we," "us," or "our"). We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.

Description of Service
Gene is a free AI-powered Chrome browser extension that provides intelligent assistance directly within your browsing experience, powered by GPT-5 and DeepSeek-V3. The Service includes, but is not limited to:
- AI Chat powered by GPT-5 and DeepSeek-V3 language models
- Webpage and article summarization
- PDF reading and analysis (online and local files)
- Text highlighting and contextual Q&A
- Smart web search and research assistance
- Content writing and outline generation via the Write Agent
- Real-time text translation across multiple languages
- Math and code problem solving
- Screenshot-based visual queries
- Integration with Google Docs and YouTube videos
Gene is activated using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Q and operates across webpages, PDFs, and supported document platforms. Gene is offered entirely free of charge and does not require an OpenAI or ChatGPT account.

Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years of age to use the Service. If you are under 18, you represent that you have obtained parental or guardian consent prior to using the Service. By using Gene, you represent and warrant that you meet these eligibility requirements and have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.
Section 04
Acceptable Use
Permitted Uses
You may use the Service for personal, educational, research, and professional productivity purposes, including reading comprehension, language learning, writing assistance, summarization, and information lookup.
Prohibited Uses
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Generate, distribute, or promote content that is illegal, harmful, abusive, harassing, defamatory, or discriminatory
- Violate any applicable local, state, national, or international laws or regulations
- Infringe upon the intellectual property rights of others
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Service or any component thereof
- Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to access the Service in an unauthorized manner
- Transmit malware, viruses, or any other malicious code
- Collect or harvest personal data from other users
- Generate misinformation, spam, or deceptive content
- Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service or its servers

AI-Generated Content & Disclaimers
The Service uses artificial intelligence to generate responses, summaries, translations, and other content. You acknowledge and agree that:
- AI-generated content may be inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated. Gene does not guarantee the accuracy, reliability, or fitness of any output.
- Gene does not provide professional legal, medical, financial, psychological, or other licensed professional advice. Any AI-generated information in these domains is for general informational purposes only.
- You are solely responsible for evaluating and verifying any content generated by the Service before acting upon it.
- Gene is not liable for any decisions made or actions taken based on AI-generated content.
Section 06
Intellectual Property
Gene's IP
All intellectual property rights in and to the Service — including the Chrome extension, website, software, branding, logos, and underlying technology — are owned by or licensed to Gene AI. Nothing in these Terms grants you any ownership rights to the Service.
Your Content
You retain ownership of any content, text, or data you input into the Service ("User Content"). By using the Service, you grant Gene a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to process your User Content solely for the purpose of delivering the Service to you.
Third-Party Models
Gene integrates third-party AI models including GPT-5 (OpenAI) and DeepSeek-V3. Use of these models is subject to the respective terms and policies of those providers. Gene is not responsible for the conduct or policies of third-party AI model providers.
Section 07
Privacy & Data
Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, available at sites.google.com/view/geneprivacypolicy/home. By using the Service, you consent to the collection and use of information as described therein.
Key privacy principles include:
- Gene may collect and process webpage content, queries, and usage data to deliver its features
- Gene requires certain browser permissions — including access to browser tabs — to function. These permissions are used solely to provide the Service
- Gene does not sell your personal data to third parties

Third-Party Services & Links
The Service may integrate with or link to third-party services, including Google Docs, YouTube, and other websites. Gene is not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or terms of any third-party service. Disclaimers of Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.
Gene does not warrant that:
- The Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure
- Results obtained from the Service will be accurate or reliable
- Any defects in the Service will be corrected
- The Service will be compatible with all devices, browsers, or operating systems
Section 10
Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, GENE AI AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, AND LICENSORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE.
In no event shall Gene's total cumulative liability to you exceed the greater of (a) amounts paid by you for the Service in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or (b) USD $10.00. Because Gene is offered free of charge, this effectively limits liability to the maximum extent permitted by law.
Section 11
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Gene AI and its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from:
- Your use of the Service
- Your violation of these Terms
- Your violation of any third-party rights
- Any content you submit or transmit through the Service
Section 12
Modifications to the Service
Gene reserves the right, at any time and without notice, to modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the Service, including features, functionality, or availability. We shall not be liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the Service.
Section 13
Termination
These Terms remain in effect until terminated. You may terminate your agreement at any time by uninstalling the Gene Chrome extension and ceasing all use of the Service. Gene may terminate or suspend your access at any time, with or without cause or notice, effective immediately.
Upon termination, all licenses and rights granted to you under these Terms will immediately cease. Sections that by their nature should survive termination shall survive, including Sections 6, 9, 10, 11, and 14.
Section 14
Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, it shall be submitted to binding arbitration in accordance with applicable arbitration rules.
You agree to bring claims on an individual basis only, and not as part of a class action or other representative proceeding.
